Application Engineer

Job Summary:

We are looking for a skilled, multi-disciplinary engineer to join our growing Application Engineering team. This role covers a range of responsibilities including working with customers to provide customized technical solutions, active engagement in engineering project management, researching and testing new hardware (sensors, equipment, full camera systems, and various peripherals), and interdepartmental collaboration with our Sales team. In this role, the successful candidate will:

  • Collaborate across our multi-disciplinary Engineering team as we develop new products and improve existing systems, filling in technical gaps according to specific expertise
  • Work directly with Engineering team leads, international customers, and our Sales team to address specialized customer requests, manage complex engineering projects, and provide creative technical solutions throughout all stages of customer engagement
  • Perform feasibility and engineering cost analysis for new product solutions
  • Propose, source, develop, and test new system subcomponents, tools, and peripherals
  • Test recently-developed systems for performance benchmarking (e.g., stabilization performance, camera target detection capability, vision algorithm testing, thermal camera comparisons, etc.)
  • Travel to international sites for technical demonstrations, engineering support, and trade shows
  • Train and assist our Technical Service teams to effectively respond to support cases for global customers
  • Create product demonstrations and other technical content such as white papers, videos, specifications, and feature descriptions for sales purposes
  • Leverage technical observations and customer feedback to continuously improve our products and processes
  • Support Production and Quality Assurance teams with valuable input on product repairs and troubleshooting

Skills/Experience Required:

  • Degree in Mechatronics, Integrated, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • Wide range of technical competency across engineering fields (electro-mechanical, software, reporting, etc.)
  • Ability to bring creativity and positivity to on-the-fly problem-solving in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities
  • Passion for end-user satisfaction and working with real people to provide lasting technical solutions
  • Ability to distill and present complex technical information and development paths in a clear and concise manner
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to initiate/self-manage value-adding projects
  • Strong technical communication and reporting (spoken and written)
  • Excellent observation skills and attention to detail
  • Familiarity with command line interfaces, network interfaces, and programming languages
  • Ability to excel in a dynamic environment with changing priorities and tasks

Additional Beneficial Skills:

  • Specific experience with motors, control systems, electrical design, and/or software development
  • Experience with electro-optical (EO) systems such as cameras, lasers, and thermal imaging
  • Experience with engineering and production processes (Lean, ISO, etc.) and engineering standards (MIL-STD, IEC, etc.)
  • Experience in a customer-service or client-focused role, in a technical capacity
  • Additional spoken and/or written languages
