Job Summary:

We are looking for an experienced Electrical Engineering Designer with a passion for product quality and collaboration. In this role, you will work alongside our Electrical design team to develop the electrical and electronic subsystems within our multi-spectral camera systems.

The kind of work you will be doing:

This role reports to and works closely with the Electrical Team Lead to steer the course of electrical design work. Your primary responsibility will be to bring senior level design experience to the design process, impacting both what is developed and how work is done.

Primary job duties will include:

  • Architecting, designing, testing, and troubleshooting electrical and electronic circuits for data communication, power distribution, video processing, and motor control within a multi-sensor, motion-stabilized camera system.
  • Creating and maintaining design files, drawings, and other documentation for electrical components.
  • Working with Engineering, Production, and QC teams to evaluate and improve the processes for assembly, integration, and testing of electrical components.
  • Working with external manufacturers and suppliers to ensure procured components meet design requirements.
  • Communicating between various teams to troubleshoot design issues on the fly and continuously improve our electronic/electrical subsystems.

Example scenario: We need to develop a new hardware architecture for interfacing multiple cameras and sensor modules. It’s your job to carry the new electrical architecture design from beginning to end: researching options and proposing solutions, refining concepts, implementing and revising designs, coordinating unit tests, and ultimately validating within an integrated product. Throughout development, you will collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and software design team members, as well as project managers and internal stakeholders, to meet functional requirements and deliverable timelines. Aside from sensor interfacing, development projects may relate to video processing hardware, electronic tools for QA/QC testing, UI hardware for camera control, and more.

Who we are looking for:

An enthusiastic team player with experience to share and apply; who is detail-oriented and tenacious about product quality; who appreciates the challenges and joys of working with commercially deployed products; who understands the importance of deadlines and meeting requirements; who enjoys variation in their day-to-day responsibilities; and who, as a lifelong learner, explores different approaches to problem solving.

What experience and skills you need for this:

  • Degree in Electrical, Computer, or Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field
  • 5+ years experience working in an electrical/electronic hardware design role in a production or commercial setting
  • PCB design experience and high comfort level with OrCAD, Altium, or similar schematic/PCB design software
  • Excellent observational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience with digital video interfaces (MIPI, SDI, GMSL, etc.)
  • Experience working with various serial communication protocols (I2C, SPI, UART, etc.)
  • Understanding of electromagnetic interference (EMI) and its mitigation techniques
  • Ability to bring creativity and positivity to problem-solving in high-pressure situations
  • Ability to excel in a dynamic environment with changing priorities and tasks
  • Strong technical communication and reporting (spoken and written)
  • Positive attitude and demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Why work with CURRENT:

  • Part of a growing team in an evolving industry
  • Great company culture, committed to a personally and professionally supportive environment
  • Work/life balance, opportunities to stay active and social inside and outside office (games, ping pong, hiking, cycling, climbing, running, etc.)
  • Young workforce with opportunities to learn as well as teach
  • Health benefits
  • Competitive salary

Additional skills/experience that would help:

  • Experience interfacing microcontroller peripherals over UART, GPIO, I2C, PWM, ADC
  • Experience with manufacturing processes (Lean, ISO, etc.) and engineering standards (MIL-STD, IEC, etc.)
  • Experience designing/programming FPGAs for video processing and/or video interface translation
  • Understanding of high-speed signalling for CPUs, RAM, PCIe, etc.
  • Experience with electro-optical systems such as cameras, lasers, and thermal imagers

Salary Range:

$80,000 to $120,000 + benefits
