Job Summary
We are looking for a skilled Mechanical Designer to join our growing Product Development team. In this role, you will play a crucial role toward innovating and improving our electro-optical camera systems for reliable operation and serviceability in harsh environments.
Responsibilities
- Mechanical design in Solidworks, including 3D modeling and preparing manufacturing drawings
- Performing technical calculations and simulated analysis for mechanical components (e.g., stress, heat transfer, fatigue, wear, gearing, motor sizing)
- Designing and building prototype products and subsystems
- Performing environmental and accelerated lifecycle testing of integrated camera systems and components such as seals, motors, bearings, sliprings, and wiring harnesses
- Analyzing design risk and identifying potential failure modes
- Working closely with our Production department to troubleshoot design issues and identify improvements to designs and manufacturing processes
- Sourcing and evaluating mechanical and electromechanical components
- Creating design documentation, including assembly manuals, technical drawings, and test reports
- Participating in design reviews, maintaining product BOMs, and contributing to improved product development processes
Required Skills & Experience
- Post-Secondary degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Integrated, or related engineering field; or technical diploma in related field with evidence of mechanical design experience
- Proven experience with Solidworks or other 3D modeling software (Inventor, Pro-E/Creo, CATIA, Fusion, etc.)
- Strong understanding of Mechanical engineering fundamentals including material properties, DFMA, stress/strain, heat transfer, fatigue, and corrosion
- Positive attitude; commitment to supporting team members in a collaborative development environment
- Creativity in problem solving, concept development, and design for human factors
- Aptitude for hands-on assembly, troubleshooting, and product testing
- Strong organization skills; ability to initiate, self-manage, and complete value-adding projects
- Desire for continuous learning, feedback, and improvement
- Strong technical communication, documentation, and reporting (spoken and written)
- Excellent observation skills and attention to detail; commitment to seeing projects through to completion
- Ability to excel in a dynamic environment with changing priorities and tasks
Additional Beneficial Skills & Experience
- Experience with computer aided simulation (FEA, CAE) and manufacturing (CAM)
- Experience with document version control systems (e.g., PDM, SVN, Git, etc.)
- Project experience with motors, control systems, electrical circuits, software development
- Experience with electro-optical (EO) systems such as cameras, lasers, and thermal imaging
- Experience with engineering and production processes (Lean, ISO, etc.)
- Familiarity with engineering standards such as MIL-STD and IEC
- Additional spoken and/or written languages
Salary Range: $55,000 to $85,000 + benefits; dependent on skills and experience level
